9% of New Year’s resolutions are actually successful. 80% are dead by February.
Year-long goals are simply too big. Progress is slow, which turns into discouragement. Life gets in the way. A setback as small as one bad week makes the goal seem insurmountable.
The solution? Divide the year up into 5% segments, sprints that last 18 days at a time. You (probably) won’t build an extra $2,000 in income in January, and you (definitely) won’t lose 60 pounds in 3 weeks. But you can take small, bite-sized chunks toward goals like those.
And if you fail to hit your 18 day goal? Oh well. You’ve still got 95% of the year to get it right. Learn and adjust. No need to wait until next January to get motivated again.
Every 18 days I’ll be sending out an email that will share a tip on one of the big 4 areas in which most people want to grow: Faith, Family, Finance, and Fitness. Each post will serve as a reminder and an opportunity to check in with your goals.
18 days from now you might not be much different. Put together a series of quality 18 Day Sprints, though, and you’ll be a whole new person.
So, get ready to start in January.
